Computers with a Cause

We've Moved!

AI is no longer based out of our Schippers Lane Offices. With The Geek Group's acquisition of our new lab (we finally own our own building! YAY!) AI is now based out of the Group's main campus located at 2309 North Burdick near Burdick and Mosel. We're even easier to find now. Just head North of Burdick from downtown and look for the giant robots on the left side of the street. They're pretty hard to miss. Come on out, tour our new facility, and bring your computer in for a checkup. We have no bench fees so all diagnostics are free. And we'll beat any competitors price on service or repairs! Students, Geek Group members, and Moped Army members get a discount!

Epic Tale of Data Recovery!

Read here how Applied Intellect proved itself as the most incredible computer shop in the world when we crawled into a burned out office building to save our clients business!

Computers With a Cause

Applied Intellect is a radical departure from the typical computer shop and operates on a completely unique business model. All of Applied Intellect's profits benefit The Geek Group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching kids about science and technology.

AI exists to generate a consistent revenue stream to provide funding for the Group's programs and demonstrations so that The Geek Group can focus on building projects and not on writing grant proposals. This allows us to earn our own way instead of relying on other people. This kind of Can-Do work ethic is the backbone of the Group, and of AI. We're here to get the job done through creative applications of hard work and problem solving skills.

AI isn't a large corporate operation. We're a local shop with strong ties to the community. Every dollar generated through AI is invested directly back into the Kalamazoo area. We focus on local clientele (primarily Kalamazoo County, but we do reach as far as 50 miles for our primary market). Our primary customer base is college students, small business, and residential users. These are the three major types of clients who are most under represented by the IT industry. They get the highest prices and the least support. Most computer shops that cater to business don't want to work with companies that have less than 10 computers at a minimum. This leaves a massive number of small business out there in need of support. The Dentist's, auto body shops, accountants offices, veterinary clinics, and other "Mom and Pop" businesses that make up the heart and soul of a small city like Kalamazoo.

College kids are also a major area that we're here for. Most college kids are broke, and they all need a computer. Most computer shops treat them in one of two ways. They either sell them greatly overpriced laptops for the rich kids to get with Daddy's money, or they just ignore the broke ones and hope they go away. The problem is that the majority of college kids aren't trust-fund-teens and they need some help getting a decent computer without getting hosed in the process.

That's what we're here for. We're staffed by, run by, and built by the people we represent. We believe that by working with people and not just handing them a price list, that we can help the community and build a successful business in the process.

Because AI isn't a greed machine, we take a unique approach to our clients. To us, you're an individual; we know many of our clients by name, and do a massive amount of business through word-of-mouth. Taking the time to know our clients as people, not just wallets, creates so much community goodwill that our advertising budget is basically nil; meaning more money to donate to education.

Applied Intellect is also doing its best to teach the basics of IT to the next generation. Our staff, which consists mostly of college students in technology-based programs, undergoes constant training from experienced professionals while also gaining real-world experience. The result is a superior education for our staff and a first-rate computer fix at a significantly reduced cost to you.

So check us out, see what you think. Our shop is open for tours to the public. You can walk in and see the tech area, and even get a tour of the larger campus (we're housed inside The Geek Group's engineering center). You can come and see giant robots, the lightning machines, and all of the other toys we work around every day. Unlike walking in to a Big Box store when you come here you can actually talk to real people with a brain. If you have any questions we're happy to help. You can even talk to the owner (if you can get him to stand still for 5 minutes) without an appointment. Chris is always happy to meet with a client, answer any questions, and make a new friend. If you ask nice he may even show you a magic trick.
